Ricks permanent magnet starter.

Has anyone here tried the ricks permanent magnet starter? If so how do you like it? My 1100f starter finally died after 65,000 miles and it is roached.

Despite the lack of feedback i decided to try the Ricks starter anyway. Seems to be working great, turns the engine over alot better when hot. Its been a little sketchy since I installed the 1123 wiseco kit. We'll see how well it holds up in the long run but first impressions are good. Smile

Thanks for taking the plunge and reporting back!

When hot starts are difficult, have you tried pushing the starter button with the kill switch turned to off and then flipping the switch to on while cranking? Sometimes that helps and it’s much easier on the starter.

Or add an Ignitech controller and delay the spark for a few rotations. Just one of the many benefits of using the the Ignitech box.

For sure! There are better ways of dealing with hot start problems than my suggestion, but it is a simple crutch that anyone can do that may help save their starter.

Yes I have, Its the only way that it would start while hot after the engine rebuild with the higher compression pistons. I was going to have to rebuild or replace the starter anyway since It died anyway, and after seeing the guts of the starter after disassembly this seemed like the best option.

I'm thinking about trying one of these, I need to stop spending all my money on RD400 parts Laughing
