Cary, I meant to say how impressed I am with those custom-made exhausts. The local artisan that you know is incredibly talented and his price to make them is quite reasonable. Can you get some sort of idea on what shipping to the U.S. would be? I bet more than one of us would be interested in having a set made.

Tom

Hi Tom et al,

Firstly I should state if you want quality it takes time, if you want to order a set it will be approximately 3 months (although as I am on the ground I can press buttons!). I really want to open up the opportunity that exists here so everyone can benefit, let me get a shipping quote but suggest we look at a group purchase and ship to a single US address for onward shipping - obviously duties need to be taken into consideration if we do that..

Can I have at least a show of hands of who is interested (oh BTW the CB900 exhausts are stunning as they are polished will forward a picture) but need to know whether you want F/RC/RD/CB900

Anyone in Europe let me know as I can ship out of my UK address - well for now until the brexiteers screw me/us over!

Photos of today's work to follow..

Cary - you can put me down for one stainless steel system for an 1100F. I'd be willing to act as a receiving hub for any of the guys from the NE gang that might want one. If the sets arrived here before the end of May, I can bring them to our Spring NE ride in my truck.

One question - is there a center stand "stopper" on the underside of the left muffler?

Thanks!

Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for letting me know and agreeing to act as the hub, I will get pricing for shipping one set by airfreight or alternatively see if there is container space heading to the East Coast.

Yes there is a stopper bracket fitted LH side (F & 900 only not RC) but the bung is not fitted obviously, it also includes the hanger brackets. The only thing the exhausts do not include is the peg heat shields, I do have an OEM set which I can get the patterns made from, this will add some additional cost I guess ITRO $100. Also there are no clamps - I was told by the artisan that the fit is so good as it has the balance pipe it does not require clamps just a little muffler paste.

The exhaust will come as we have discussed on the forum with a brushed stainless finish. I have two sets of RC exhausts so will attempt to paint a set with matt VHT, firstly before we all get carried away let me get the exhausts fitted and make sure the fit is good.

The weather is a little dull here currently, when I get a sunny day I will get some quality shots and start a separate thread,

Cary

I wish this would have been available earlier, I would have skipped the Marving 4-2 set and taken this one. The pricing is reasonable, it is stainless after all. I thought I was restoring my 1100F to 100% original but that goal has been thrown out of the window long time ago. Using stainless exhaust instead of black is no issue at this point. I have to see if I get myself one more 1100/900F project...

Thank you for bringing this option available.

As I am restoring 3 RC's I already have two sets of RC built exhausts available so I am going to try the brushed chrome look for the first fitting and then spray up the second set so will forward the pics..

The 3rd RC I think I am going to bring up to date with some modern contemporary modifications .. double LED headlight for starters to get rid of that horrible rectangular thing! also get rid of the monolithic rear tail light and ancient mud guard.. So will look at a modern exhaust system that will complement the existing fairing.. more serious bike porn to come sometime next year...

Evening from deepest darkest Africa,

So the beast after 20 years of sitting idle burst into life first press of the button. Below are some images and a little you tube clip of the old girl with her new dressed up exhausts... exquisite finish and fit am going to leave them as they are for the moment Laughing

Carbs re-furbished with ultrasonic clean all new O-rings, air diaphrams replaced along with jets. Float needle seats lapped and leak down test undertaken prior to fitting..

Enjoy the porn below...

Congrats on the start-up, Cary.
That exhaust looks great.
Curious if you coated the inside of the headers?

Hi Guy's,

So the oily part is completed, all brakes master and calipers completely overhauled, fitted and bled with silicon brake fluid. carbs synchronised today with a slight clutch rattle which is to be expected. The headers have not been coated internally as they will be removed and sprayed matt black along with the silencers or mufflers for our North American cousins! I will however be completing the bike with the brushed chrome look just to get some quality pictures first.

So everything is now complete to fit the bodywork and commission the electrics. Below is an appetizer of what is to come, I think and hope you will agree a work of art is in the offing.

Looks real good. What are you plans with the seat cover? A while ago I discovered that the CB1100R lettering on the seat was different from one side to the other. Looks like a couple of potato stamps were used and different guys made them. Anyhow I had stencils produced to match the two sides and got a new seat cover without any markings on it. Then used the stencils with vinyl shoe paint.

Seat covers all done x3 by local artisan, no markings as of yet until I can ensure a quality finish.

I use those same covers but the pre stamped text is never quite in the right place after the cover is fitted and the font is wrong. I had them send me covers without text (like decaf coffee it costs more for less) and then applied the text after the cover was fitted. Result right font in the right place.

So today just about completed the project, the rest is detailing such as fitting OEM indicators (when the brackets arrive), chain guard and warning labels - oh nearly forgot foot peg rubbers.

The bike is about as original as you can get when finished with no expense spared on the overhaul with all new rubbers that have signs of perishing replaced. The engine has been overhauled with new main and big end bearings, piston rings and gaskets and all seals replaced where available.

All new seals throughout on the forks and brakes.

The only parts missing are the spring clips that retain the strip around the windshield (which a friend of mine believes he has). Apart from that the bike is as near as factory spec.

Now on to the 79 CBX next week which is now basically a rebuild as it has had its restoration done in parallel with the RC..

Apologies Guy's on the shipping, I have had time constraints as family are visiting from the UK for Christmas and had to get the resto finished (along with the CBX - going to be a busy two weeks ahead) as one spare bedroom is currently a store room for seats fairings and engine casings for 5 bikes!

I will try and get time next week to get some rates, also to be honest I wanted to see the exhausts fitted, just because they looked sweet does not mean they fit sweet. The great news is they are both, look good and fit good - in fact were an excellent fit, no clamps required which I was told by the Guy who made them.

On the "when do I sleep" side to be fair I purchased these 5 bikes over the last 2 years, all the, painting and exhaust manufacture was planned over a year ago, hence the reason my spare bedroom is a store room. I also have another 3 CBX projects waiting in the garage.

Some of the bikes I restore I will keep. some will be sold to pay for the hobby and the living costs living between the UK and South Africa. This RC, the CBX and the 1100F being restored I will keep, one RC will be rebuilt and sold in the coming months.

The final RC which does not have an original Honda frame number is going to be a contemporary restoration but with a mono shock conversion, with an up to date look without destroying the original character of the bike, this may or may not be sold depending on the outcome of the restoration.

Thanks for watching and your interest.. do you want to see the CBX restoration over the next couple of weeks or is it not appropriate as it is not a CBX forum? Let me know and I will open up a new thread.

Absolutely! This bike looks amazing, so I want to see what you do with the CBX. Wonderful work!

Thanks Guys for the feedback...

No one has yet spotted the deliberate mistake.... I will wait to see if anyone can pick it up... not the indicators - waiting for brackets from Wim or chain guard (which is now fitted). Warning decals fitted today, will post final pictures once final detail completion is undertaken.

Will start the CBX thread shortly...
