Bee-Jay
I'm in West Palm Beach....another, Danny Cool Beans is in Miami. Danny is a Metro Dade Fireman so is part of the emergency response team. For me? 58 years down here and not my first rodeo. Getting out says easy, does hard, as there are only a few roads that get you out and millions out there. Traffic since Thursday has been gridlock, and the path currently, right up the state, so its worse to be in a car on the road and have it catch you with gas hard to find also. Circumstance leads us to stay. All here are well prepared, and it's in the Creators hands as to the outcome. Thanks for your concern buddy!

Wayne

hang in there. it's going to be a wild ride.
thoughts out to you and comrades in Texas.

Here at work (Generator Svc Co) we already have most of our Trailer mounted sets heading south.

I think we'll be taking in animals at the Shelter I help run too. Problem seems is getting them transport up here....

keep us updated as it plays out if you can.

I am about two hundred miles north of Wayne, but still in Irma's path. It really is
a cluster fuck out there. Water and gasoline are the 2 hardest things to find right now.
Traffic is unbelievable north bound, even on the rural back roads where we live, thanks
in part, to GPS systems. Got our generator up and running, hunkering down and hoping
for the best.

I have friends who's family lives in Naples. They rode it out with 110mph winds at their house but they are ok. My parents are in Ga with no power but it's not too bad there. My wife and kids just fly down to Ga this morning, catching an earlier flight in hopes of not getting delayed. Arrived ok with no delays. Kids even got to sit in the pilots seats once they were landed! Lots of rain and some wind.

How is everyone else in FL? many still without power I suspect...

We haven't heard from Terry (Grumpy32) in Summerfield yet. Sunday morning he had a weather related post at the other site... He has a decent generator (+ fuel) but maybe no net? Hope he still has a roof and a dry floor.

I would imagine most communications are down, phone, cell, cable etc. because of major power grid outages.
Everything relies on power nowadays, so no juice, no communicating.

My folks live in Edgewater 20 mi south of Daytona. They had given in to being flooded but nothing really happened except strong winds all night and rain. They did not lose power.

Hey everyone, I'm back... Gene nailed it. We didn't lose power, but did lose phone and internet like geepster said.
Finally got it back an hour ago. I've got a lot of big oaks and limbs to clean up and burn now... need firewood anyone.

That'll be a lot of firewood in a year, or maybe some hand sawn lumber, maybe some beams.

I tried that after one hurricane years back. No one I contacted wanted the 30-40 pine logs. Said it wasn't worth it
for just one truck load. Besides, the tree in the picture is probably rotten in the middle. That's why it came down.

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. It sucked cuz we got hit twice. Once as it moved west then again when it went north. Luckily this time we were only without power one day!!! But sadly there are still people in the area still out. No damage to the house which was a blessing, but lots of tree damage. Still nothing compared to what Puerto Rico is going through!!! I work nearly in Miami and it was worse down here. I saw the bands on the radar at the time that were right in this area and they were pretty severe. The Overseas Highway to the Keys is closed still and only open to responders and emergency vehicles. Key West was hit very very hard.....thanks all for thinking about us.

Wayne

I was without power for about 4 days. We don't own a generator so we took the dogs and went and stayed with friends. Lost a bunch of shingles from the roof and had damage to soffit as well. I don't know what insurance is going to say. Adjuster came out and measured everything and said I'd hear back in a couple weeks.

It was a pretty wicked storm even in Central Florida. I lot of big trees down. I waited it for the worst of it to come through my area. I had no power but cell data was working so I was streaming the local news. When the worst of it came through we all piled into the laundry room which has no windows.

There was a lot of embarrassing complaining on social media about the power not coming back up everywhere quickly enough.

I figure I'll post a picture of how I tie down my stuff. Figure you guys might get a kick out of it.... I made the cargo net out of 600 ft of 3/8" rope. I did it last year for Hurricane Matthew and it took me 4 hours to make.
