I ordered new tires and when they arrived I found that the date code on the tires was 3415 - thirty fourth week of 2015. Is this acceptable? Seems at least 1 year too old to me. |

Plenty of people run the same tires on their bikes for 10 years or more. I wouldn't get too worked up about new 2 year old tires.
I'm sure plenty of people would disagree, just my 2 cents.

Did you get them locally David? I would contact the vendor and ask for 25% off.

Kinda depends on how they were stored, but if you bought them from a retailer, Id assume they weren't lying around in the sun. As long as they weren't all brown coated, which is a sign of sun oxidation, they're probably fine. |

Got them (Pirelli Sport Demons) from Petes. I've been in contact with him and he's being helpful about trying to resolve it. He said the supplier won't check dates before shipping the tires.
I would be happier if they were a year newer.
I might do what you are suggesting and go from there. I don't ride aggressively on the 900 so I'm less concerned about keeping them. If was another bike I wouldn't keep them. |

They will be fine for the type of riding you are doing with that bike. They will only last a couple of seasons anyway, maybe a bit more on your 900. I couldn't get 2 full seasons out of the rear tire using the BT45's or the Sport Demon's.
David, have you heard that the Ice House restaurant is closed?

Agreed. At the rate I ride my F bikes, there are many, many years between tire changes. If you're putting lots of miles on, I don't think expired tires would typically be an issue. |

Petes will take them back but will not offer a discount.
Yes, I heard the Icehouse is closed. There is another breakfast place around the corner so that may become our go to if it ever stops raining and gets warmer😕 |

On the flip side of this, one of my customers found some tires made in Japan and only available there and Europe, not in the US. He had them air freighted to me and the date code showed they were only 3 weeks old when I got them.
Too bad they all couldn't be like that.
BTW, when I order tires from the big online guys, I specify that they must be no more than 6 months old or I'll send them back at their expense. I've only had to do that once. |

That's my plan next time. |

I don't disagree Tom. It all depends on how the tires spent their lives, where they were stored, how much time was spent in the sun, near EMR, etc. Unless you're racing on a track at high speed - a tire with plenty of tread, no dry rot, and no cracks will serve fine. Most vendors are going to sell the older tires first, just like grocery stores, who put the newer produce towards the back. |
