What I forgot to mention is that I have enough nail polish left to do everyone's nails at the NE Spring Ride. Shocked

I think that would work, with no engine in the frame not much of a load. When done they should fall out with just some small taps to the outer races.

I ended up fully disassembling the wheels and dropping them off for powdercoat yesterday. I figured I would just get that part done, then properly seat the new bearings in, new tires and valvestems on, and I wouldnt have to pull them apart a second time. Plus that will give me time to work on white lettering the tires, and finishing the airbox paint. Next up is ordering all gauges from DCC, and sourcing a Yoshimura RS3. Oh, and cleaning up my swingarm. I got some proper quotes for powdercoat, I am gonna skip the black frame and go fancy, like a deep candy metallic wine red frame, calipers, and have everything else a gloss black including the tank. That will make the frame aesthetically pop.

Ordering a heap of parts. Got my daymaker headlight, brackets, wheelbearing retainers, o rings, led signal strips, and license plate lights all set up and ordered. Im stuck on sprocket and chain ordering. Theres an ebay lonk with voltar and JT stuff, whats the stocker sprocker (lol) sizes?

Edit. NVM, I ended up ordering the eBay Voltar Nickel plated 520 chain with JT 18F and 46R. Should match my color scheme ok. Next up is exhaust. My custom shop guy wants to fabricate me a resonator to match the midpipe he will be making for me, basically a handmade muffler with large open end. I was planning on a Yoshimura RS3 simce I really like the tone and the look, we will see though.

I swapped all of my gauge pod lights to LED, by the end of the season, all of the lights on the bike will be LED.

Also what size tire is that on the CBX rim? Is it a 79/80 or is it a 81/82 Prolink? I'm trying to decide how big of a Shinko 230 I can put on my CBX.

Thanks!

That part was easy. We have a local polishing shop that did both wheels for me - $120, had them back in a week. BTW, this was another set of wheels I had. The ones that were on the bike, the fasteners that hold all the pieces together were too corroded to re-use. I may experiment on taking them apart (not recommended by Honda) and replacing the parts in question one at a time.

That REALLY puts a finishing touch on the bike.

ProLink '82. That's a 130 width that I don't believe you have the room for on a twin-shock without torque arm modification.

If you need your's done, I can slice it apart and TIG it for you. After re-paint you won't be able to tell the difference.

😆 my brother had a 68 HD 350 ss sprint when I was 12. That's the bike I learned to ride on. It would eat the 350 hell cat for breakfast if I remember correctly. It was fun to start... 😉 .we used to lean it up against the garage and try to kick it over.... went air born on several occasions.

Along with a bunch of customer parts I had to finish, I powder coated the swingarm for my son's 1100F and pressed in new bearings.

Image

The adjusters were a totally disgusting mess, so I degreased them, media blasted with aluminum oxide, then finish blasted them with a super fine microblast media that leaves the aluminum looking new again. The before and after pics show a "slight" improvement. Wink

Image

I polished the end caps as well and will replace the nuts with new ones. Little details, but worth the extra time.

Amazing difference in the before and after pics. Always wondered about the washers on the chain adjusters, not shown on the 1100f parts fiche but seems like a good idea to keep the nut from digging in.

I agree that the washers are a good and very inexpensive improvement. I've actually seen them used on a number of 1100F swingarms and always assumed that they came that way from the factory.

Those parts look great Tom.

Im finishing the last layers of engine paint on my airbox. I had a section run on me in the detail lines of the side covers, so i used my knife to peel out the truckbedliner out of the recessed lines, masked up and painted with the silver. Wasnt what I wanted originally, but its eye catching none the less. Among other progress, Ive ordered the final major bits for the bike. DCC gauge cluster, bracket, magnetic drain plug. Ive taken delivery of my NOS wheel bearing retainers, and my JT sprocket set with Voltar Nickel plated chain.

My buddies told me I should save myself the effort and take my tank to a radiator shop, they say its $150 to have it fully treated, rust removed and lined, and then I wont have to spend so long shaking screws and bbs in my tank. What you guys think? I picked up the POR15 starter kit on Amazon just to seal the tank. Since ive picked up the tank over a year ago it was furry with rust internally, ive ran a few rounds of CLR through with BBs, then a quick round of Evapo-Rust, and now its just sitting in my basement till its the center of attention again. Evapo-Rust with water soak? Or full strength and shake techniques?

Mixed up and sprayed a custom tri-coat for CBX #9, shown here before the clear. Monday, I'll block and add the 2 tone to the tank and tail piece and place the stickers before waiting a couple of days to re-clear, allowing the stickers to off-gas and cook under the radiant heat.

It might look dark here but, in the sun it just dazzles!

I got my rims back from powdercoat. I was initially worried that a single color without a twotone trim would look bland, boy was I wrong. Gloss black all over really highlights the rim details. Packed my swingarm in the jeep today, will stop by a carwash to pressure wash it down, then start bringing parts back to the custom shop to build the roller.

If you don't mind, how much did the powder-coating cost?
Did they do all the prep?

They charged $90 per rim, and did all the prep. I did pull the bearings and discs off first though. The place is called Armorcoatings out of Salt Lake City UT: @Armorcoatings instagram.

Today I took off from work so I could focus on really getting progress done on the CB. Gonna pick up my frame, get bearings seated into the rims, reassemble the retainers and rubbers, install my 90 degree valvestems, and then get the tires on. Hopefully the rest is pretty straight forward. Im a little intimidated by my giant basketcase full of parts

Had a talk with my motorcycle custom shop guys, theyre cutting out all projects that are friends based. I picked up my frame from them and brought all my parts home. Spent about 6 hours today scrubbing every single part, ultrasonic cleaning anything that would fit, wire wheel on all the bolts, screws, and little parts that had corrosion or rust, and then staging it all in my dining room. I officially am building a motorcycle in the house haha. Im just making sure everything is in a section where I can easily build the bike. Lesson learned with projects, having the proper space makes a huge difference, and cleaning parts as I go is paramount. Im never getting drunk and just tossing parts in a box ever again. Im probably never going to buy such a decrepit pile of pure labor ever again either. Ive got my bearings in the freezer overnight, and will try to seat them tomorrow. Also, the first stages of building a roller will begin. Anyways, enjoy these pics of my pile o parts.

Building a motorcycle in my dining room https://imgur.com/gallery/ry4Qg

I also noticed my hand switches are toast. Any suggestions for good replacements?

If you wire wheel the zinc off the bolts (comes off easy), they will soon rust... that is, soon like next year of so. They should be re-plated with zinc to look right and not rust.

Most of them were already coated with rust and corrosion. Now theyre clean but pitted. As of now I am only focusing on getting the frame to roll, then when it all comes apart again for powdercoat I was going to visit Home Depot and see about replacing as many of the bolts that I can with stainless.

The only component I never opened up when I built my bike were the calipers. With an unknown history and 11,000kms later their performance had gradually degraded in a manner that pointed to sticky pistons and seals. So out they came and after a thorough clean and new seals they're as good as new.
