An excellent thread, I really enjoyed it...except the naysayer, but he ended up with a painful case of internet road rash so I am happy.
I love the exhaust!
My search for a 4 to 1 replacement for my 750F was driving me nuts lately. I could not find the right combination of decent looking, decent sounding ( road legal and pleasant ) that ALSO had the excellent ground clearance that the stock 4 into 2 on each side had under the oil pan. After seeing this, I may have a go at getting a proper set of headers made an choose a pretty muffler to mate it with, thanks for the inspiration!

I *knew* you had good taste. This just confirms it
This is what I was shooting for with my resto:
If you look closely you'll notice a pair of FZ indicators on the left, and the correct FA set on the right. It went down the road 3 days after I bought it (new!) and they gave me the FZ indicators with the silver trim piece. It was about 4 weeks until I noticed the difference. My excuse was I was still traumatised
Can't wait to see your next project Andy - and please stop calling that red bike a beater? It's as far from a beater as you can get.
cheers

AMAZING PROJECT BRO!!! If I were half as talented a mechanic I am sure I could build one bad @zz ride!
And I am with bikeboy....that red one is anything but a beater, but if you really want a beater I got a real nice beat down 750 I am more than willing to trade for that "beater" of yours!
Thanks a gain for the inspiration!!
Simply awesome!!! |

I showed up a little late to the party here, but that is one amazing build. When I picked up my F, I said I was just going to keep it stock and enjoy riding it, but looking through this site and builds like this has me thinking a little different.
I applaud the effort and attention to detail in this build. Great job! Thanks for the inspiration.... |

Is this an American sort of fetish with old bike bits? Here in Australia we not only try to be polite about other peoples stuff (most of the time) but with old bike parts, rather than try some form of rectal insertion, we tend to clean them, check the specifications (useable/unuseable), protect them from corrosion, then either put them on a bike or store them away. |

SoyBoySigh you are totally ruining this thread that is supposed to be about bike building not this drivel above that I'am not even going to bother quoting. If it's not related to this buildup don't put it here. |

While I’m all for free speech and respecting everyone’s opinions (as long as this is shown in return) I must respectively ask that this thread remain true to its’ original intent – to be a guide or walkthrough the mods I have made to my bike, so that others may benefit from the lessons I have learnt along the way for things like ......
Fitting USD forks
6 Piston callipers
5.5” rear wheels
Frame Bracing
The list goes on ....
SoyBoySigh - Rather than have this thread, intended merely as an information point as previously mentioned, filled with extended reflective comments, perhaps these very ‘insightful’ commentaries would be best severed with their own thread?
At least this way the forum could speak to your writings directly in an appropriate environment.

Well the relevance of a handful of dudes sitting around over a six pack of beer is quite an issue when it comes to bikes. Why? because bikes are a way to express our freedom. I sit around my (unfinished!) bike with a beer once in a while and I chat about it with friends. Why do I chat about it with friends? Because it is relevant? No. definetly not. Because it brings meaning to our lives? No. definetly not. It is an emotional issue and not a rational issue.
Even if you have a 'dissenting opinion', I know Andy is a stand-up guy which has put his heart into this project. He has made major contributions to this forum and I think his efforts to build his own custom 'R' bike should be the main topic of this thread.
Andy, I'm sorry for causing more offtopic ramble. SoyBoySigh, I am not a native English speaker but I strongly encourage you to continue this conversation via private messaging. I'de be happy to share some thoughts. |

Hear, hear, well said Eddie.
Soy if you have something long winded to say then say it dude, just make your own thread first, it is quite bad net etiquette to dump on a thread as good as this, and by the way Rod is a perfect example of reaping what you sow, if you wish to go the same way be our guest.

Saving my energies for some other segment of the public sitting on some other ubiquitous brand name object I have sat upon. Like... Crane toilets... or something.

Do you have any close up pics of the finished product showing the rearsets?

Hey Andy,
What is happening with this old girl. Just been out riding the sack off or is it still incomplete? Looked good last time I checked in.
