I heard it happen, because I park right outside my office window. But when I saw her laying against a bluestone garden bed, I thought the worst. Fortunately it came to rest on the vavle cover, which had fractured and was leaking oil, but had stopped any damage to the tank. both blickers were busted too, but you expect that don't you Wink

I had our son drop off a spare cover and some tools, and we fixed her up at lunch time. Total cost of repair: $10 petrol money for the lad.

It's handy having spares lying around.

Still can't believe ut was that windy!

cheers
ian

Ahhh damn it!! I sure am glad that tank didn't get dinged and you were able to get a quick fix. I would just cry a river if I ever saw my bike laying on her side.

Dave

well, you scared the hell out, i thought you were riding at the time, when i go to the farm from December to March, it gets really windy, you can see the cars moving all over the lane, i have seen small cars roll over, it's the 2 lane panamerican hyway, and it's way narrrow at some areas where makes it more dangerous. that`s when we have the dry season, and sometimes there are fires close to the road, so
it's windy, a lot of smoke and hot, i always worry about being blown to the incoming traffic. i don't do it a lot in the bike, because we always have to take something or bring something,
the area has a lot of wind mills, and it's suppose to be the second windiest area in the world, like 14 meters per second,

glad you fix the bike for a cheap price and that nothing happen to the tank, what are you going to do from now on?

I'm sure you did, but hope you reconstructed the cover to make sure no small fragments (that may still be sitting in the cam area) are missing.

Yeah, I was a little 'concerned'. It landed on a ledge, but from my angle, looked like it was resting on the tank. A nice surprise to find it wedged on the valve cover.

well, everyone's saying to use the centre stand but I'm not sure that would be any more stable? The wind blew (apparently) from the side stand side, picked it up over the centre of gravity, then dumped it. Not sure how a centre stand would help? It is even closer to the centre line of the bike? Parking on the leeward side may help, but the wind direction on the day was from directly behind, so I don't know Confused

yeah, got 'em all. There was a couple of bits inside, but other than that, it was in tact until we pulled it off.

thanks guys
ian

Nice recovery Ian, I'd be out of commission for at least a week, waiting for parts. Ride safely, mate!

If there's enough wind to do that, the center stand wouldn't have helped.

Wow, that's amazing Ian. All things considered, you probably got off as well as possible. Wink

yeah I got lucky I think. The replacement indicators I have aren't as good as the ones I was running, so it might spur me on to get some smaller replacement units. Anyone have any recommendations?

thanks guys
