At the monthly vintage motorcycle meet, i came accross this excellent example of a 900F and decided to buy it. 17K miles, unbelievable condition, and it totally original except the mirrors and new tires. I haven't ridden it yet but Bob rode it home and said it runs like a dream.

something tells me the silver colour scheme had alot to do with it (the purchase).......nice bike....somehow it must be tough to ride a stock bike with the OMT beast seducing you everytime you enter the garage....... Wink

Well I own about 5 bikes now. I keep 2 at my house and 3 at Bob's (my wife doesn't know much about bikes but she can count real well). I would have bought this bike in any stock color. Like I said, it is the cleanest, most original one I have seen since I bought a new one in 81. It even seems like it has less than 17K on it. No rust, exhaust like new with no blueing, all the paint and body work is perfect (I found one little 1/4" scratch on one side cover, seat is perfect, no rust in the tank (like new inside). Engine runs as tight as a drum! Bob rode it home for me and said the brakes, shifting, and engine, were all amazingly fresh.

At Bob's house, after it had cooled down, I went out to check the oil, and I could not believe that I smelled that special smell a bike has when it is hot and new. It brought back memories of the first ride on my new 81 back in 81.

Bob, has refused to give me the keys yet. The purchase at VME was a little complicated between the owner, me, and Bob. At times I think Bob thinks he bought the bike, not I (Long story). I paid the money (a really good price by the way), I have the title, but Bob has the bike and the keys. I think I may have made a mistake letting him ride it home?

but the big jackpot question "what do you consider a really good deal for a bike like that?/// or more simply put, " HOW MUCH?"

Ray, Thanks, I have a couple red needle 150 jobs already but this bike is staying bone stock!

At least I know I will never get a ticket for over 85...

Its a tribute to the glorious F series, and to Stouts very first 900F, which is what this bike represents...it takes me back to the summer of 83, when I bought it from Stout, so I can only imagine how Stout feels about her.... Cool

Nope, couldn't do it.

The stock US riding position is not for me. I'd be doing the factory 'Sporkit' setup if nothing else. As long as the condition of the sportkit peices match the condition of the bike, I don't think it would detract from it's value in any way.

Nice find either way - it's got to be an awesome counterpart to have beside the OMT bike. Congrats Very Happy

I also can't stand the stock (US) riding position. The rearsets and lower bars really make this bike feel right. I remember when I bought my 1981 CB900F brand new I rode it strait home from the dealer and installed the kit right away.

I have a few kits in my garage, I might throw one on.

No Jon, Martin and I argued/debated about who was buying it over several beers & hours.......I was ready to cut a check several times, but finally decided to let her go......seeing as Stout had worked the guy for several minutes, but failed to ask the skill testing question until it was to late.

HOW MUCH IS IT??

Once known, I jumped on her faster then a Sailor stuck in a whore house....

The true story.

I am walking over to the far end of the planet Georgetown parking lot at the VME last Wed. I see a black 81 CB900F and go over to investigate. While I am looking at this black bike, a silver 1982 CB900F pulls in behind the black one. I go over to look at the silver one as the rider gets off. I am looking at the bike and tell him how nice and original it looks. There are a couple other guys there talking to him as he pulls out a for sale sign. I really don't have a chance to discuss the price because the other guys are talking to the owner.

I decided Bob and John needed to see this beauty so I walk over and find them. We come back but the owner was gone. As we are looking over the bike, the owner notices us and come up to talk. I ask him "how much he is asking for the bike". He says "I'm not asking anything but I'm going to get $XXXX for it." Bob says (before I have a chance to respond), "I'll buy it."

Now if it were anyone else but Bob, I would have taken exception to his interruption to the deal I was working on. I have to hand it to Bob, he may not have been tactful, but he was quick on his lips. I was about 1 second behind him on the same statement but he beat me to it.

Bob got his number and said it would take a day to get the money but consider it sold. The guy promised to save it for him and we walked off and looked at some more bikes. A while later I asked him if he was really going to buy it, because if he wasn't, I was. He said he wasn't sure and was thinking about buying his neighbors Porsche (remember Bob?). I said if he screwed around we would loose the deal. He agreed and gave me the guy
