Here is what I got up to today, balanced the carbs, runs like a swiss clock now but the vachuum is definately sus so I am going to bypass it.

fitted new head sten taper bearings and refitted the forks, and as in pic have fitted ace bars, they do look cool but the riding position is a tad stretched Smile

Those Clubman's do not look good, they are for SOHC bikes. Your bike needs a CB400F handle bar.
I have a Morgan CarbTune to sync carbs with, what did you use to sync yours? I like to bench sync my carbs before I get to doing a running sync. It makes the job easier.
Did you change the races in the fame? How did you pull the lower bearings from the triple tree?
The most important question of all is; Did you have fun?

I already had the bars here so thats why I used them. But I like them and thats what counts Smile

Yes I changed the races in the frame, to get the bottom race off the triple tree I just put it in a vice upsidedown and used a old blunt screwdriver to drift it off. The replacment kits have a new bottom washer so damage to the original is not a worry. I drove the new bearing on with a piece of pipe.

To put the new bottom race in the frame I tapped it up a little to start and then used the old bearing with a round block of wood and hammer to drive it home. Same for the top race.

A mate bought his balance set over, not sure of the brand, just 4 guages and a bunch of tubes. They were pretty well right already as it turns out.

yes i had fun Very Happy

I love it at the end of a job and the DOHC Honda is leaving my lift running better than it had in years. The feeling of accomplishment is astounding.
Don't mind me and my dislike of Clubman Bars, what you like is important.

I like my clubmans, and I think it looks just fine on my DOHC, until I get a nice set of euros, and slip-ons.

Do you mean you got rid of the vacuum fuel valve? I hate that stupid thing, its very easy to bypass, I didn't even have to cut any hose. Just unscrew it and re-route the hose to the valve to the petcock.

I used to run clubman bars on my SOHC 750 and loved them, you don't see them that much. And they have such a cool look. Put the guages on and let me see what they look like with them in place.

I have just been to the garage to do a bit more on it, loaded the front wheel and the fender, fitted rubber hand grips and mirrors, left one is a early suzuki round chrome type with a S stamped on the back of it, something else I had hanging about here. With the CBR brake mastercylinder there is no mount for a right mirror so I had to fit a clamp on. I don't want to use barend type, makes it too wide for zipping thru the traffic.

I've pretty much made up my mind that I will paint the wheel inners royal blue but still retain the bare alloy part.

I am going to the VJMC rally next weekend so need to prepare the bike I am riding to that so the F will wait now till after the rally although I still may get the headlight fitted if I can find time to tidy up the wireing.

Here are a couple of more pretty pics, well ok average pics Smile

cb900ss, we must be on the same wave length, I was uploading pics as you wrote.

yes just run a hose straight from fuel tap to carb inlet and just seal the hose that was in the carb inlet.

G'day Chris,
Where and when is the Rally next weekend. I might be able to get some time to go for a run.
Regards

I would get one bar end mirror on the left side, it won't bother you at all. Just get a really small one, it won't do much but I don't think those mirrors you have on there are going to do much either. Plus they look like crap (sorry). You pretty much have to run a bar end mirror with clubman bars.

Also make sure you plug the vacuum line that used to run the valve, its on carb #2. ( I am sure you already did that )

How is the inside of that tank? (Por-15 works good)

Cool progress bro.

We need right mirrors here (AU) and I do have them, but want to use them on another cafe job I will do this year. Also I think the pic makes those mirrors look real wide apart, its actually not too bad in real life.

The tank inner is excellent, still sparkle clean, I was quite surprised.

I've not done anything with the vachuum lines yet but I did know they have to be plugged. Thanks for thinking of me.
